What should I do if the backup process for Windows 7 takes nearly 24 hours a day or longer??

I am at this moment downloading Acronis TrueImage, but it is only the trial version, so I may be prepared to pay for it once the trial is up, so that I can really get the full potential of this program.

BTW: how often do you guys perform backups: weekly, monthly?
