No internet for my laptop and ipod, but roomate has internet

I just moved to Thunder Bay and my laptop as well as my ipod cannot connect to the internet. My laptop allows me to write the password for the wifi, but I still have no internet connection. When I try to use the cable, the computer tells me I have a perfect connection, even the icon shows that it's working, but I can't open any web pages or use any internet functions. When I try to use MSN it sends me to a troubleshooting option and informs me that there's some kind of problem with the "gateway".

I have unplugged the modem and the router and plugged them back in, this did not help. I rebooted both laptop and ipod, I turned off my firewall (AVG) on my laptop, but it didn't help. I am living in a home where all the people are using wifi on the same system as me, and no one has ever had any problems.

Back home both my laptop and my ipod worked without a problem both in my home, as well as on campus. Since this problem seems to be limited only to me, it would indicate that there's a problem on my end -- with my laptop. However, in that case my ipod would be working. It has never failed to connect before.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Lets work on the computer first I am not that savvy with ipods.Can you tell us the exact make and model of your laptop please.


Can you get me the logs below via cd/dvd please.


Please download FarbarServiceScanner and run it on the computer with the issue.

Make sure the following options are checked:
Internet Services

Security Center/Action Center
Windows Update

Press "Scan".
It will create a log (FSS.txt) in the same directory the tool is run.
Please copy and paste the log to your reply.

Click Go and Attach the result.



Download Autoruns Unzip it to your desktop and then right click autoruns.exe run as admin After the scan is finished then click on File>>>>Save The default name will be autoruns.arn make sure to save it as Autoruns.txt in other words make sure it is a .txt file instead of .arn Post the text in your next reply.

I'm sorry, I'm almost done. I had to locate a USB to transfer the information to my laptop.

Run the internet repair tool with all boxes checked.

Reboot.

Set your dns to open dns.

After you set your dns to open dns open a command prompt and type the following commands hitting enter after each.

ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns





Then uninstall avg from your machine via add remove programs.Then reboot your machine,and check your connection.

Ok, I will do what you suggest and let you know how it went, but do you know how I can protect my computer once I get internet back online? I will not have AVG to protect me, do you know of any good free programs that I can install? I'm living in Thunder Bay temporarily, I left a lot of things back home, including program CDs...

I have internet on my land line. Do you have any idea why my wireless is not working?
