Please try to restart in Normal mode and try to run it from there. Hope it will work.

In normal mode sfc /scannow started! However, I did hit a wall as you suggested as a possibility earlier. It is asking for the Windows CD and I don't have it. I do have the Hidden files box unchecked as you also suggested.

It's time to sum everything...

I don't see any malware on your PC. Constant disk constantly grinding it's because you don't have basic requirements for Windows XP Media center. You should have at least 512 MB of RAM memory. Now you only have 382 MB. That is bare minimum to start your system.

Please try to buy more RAM (at least 1 GB) and then you will notice improvement.

If you don't have any questions I will remove my tools from your system.

FYI, I let sfc continue running and hit cancel everytime it wanted me to insert the CD (about 20 times).

I understand the RAM argument. However, this PC was functional for a couple years without behaving this way. So, I don't know what changed. Thanks for the help.

This means that sfc found around 20 files that need to be replaced. I would like to replace them but without Windows XP Media Center disk thats impossible.

You could also open new topic in Windows XP, 2000, 2003, NT. Write them link to this topic and tell them that you are virus free and problem continues. There are guys that will help you more them me with system problems.

Your logs and system are clean now.

Step 1

Please close all running programs and Run OTL

• Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following
  
  

  :OTL
  
  :Commands
  [purity]
  [emptytemp]
  [resethosts]
  [clearallrestorepoints]
  [Reboot]

• Then click the Run Fix button at the top
• Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Step 2

We need to clean up your PC from programs we used.

Please start OTL one more time and click CleanUp button. OTL will restart your system at the end.

In case that any of the software we used in this fix still remains on your system please delete it manually (Right click on it and select Delete).
