Please explain to me why my computer is slowing down.
I have a Desll Studio 1558 running Windows 7 that is about 18 months old. I have a 500 Gb Hard drive and have used 175 Gb of it so there is lots of room there. I have an i7 processer and 8 gb of RAM. The processor never moves above 5% usage. I run Advanced System Care from Iobit at least 1 time a week. often I use it to shut my system down and it does: Malware, Registry cleanup, system optimization, shortcut fix, junkfiles clean, disk scan, and a disk defrag. I have about 100 processes running. Response used to be instantaneous, but now the circle goes for a couple seconds when I do things. I have always said, RAM, processor, and HD. but these aren't even being taxed and it is still slowing down, what do the guru's say?

Thanks for your wisdom.

I will exmaine your Speccy,
HOWEVER THIS is your first mistake

I run Advanced System Care from Iobit at least 1 time a week

Uninstall it and never use it again
If it has made any changes and you have the option to revert then do so please
http://www.mywot.com...ecard/iobit.com

just some of the claims

It Tunes up Windows by releasing the built-in power of your system. Dramatically improves both system and Internet performance by up to 400%.

Absolute garbage to improve by 400% the system would have to be more or less unusable in the first place

ActiveBoost, technology that actively runs in the background intelligently managing system resources in real-time, constantly detecting inactive resources and optimizing CPU and RAM usage.

Windows does that very well in the first place, in fact on windows 7 which you have, it neither needs nor indeed does it take kindly to such unwanted and frequently harmful interference.

I could go on, but please be assured that getting rid of this is your first step to putting things right

This

often I use it to shut my system down and it does: Malware, Registry cleanup, system optimization, shortcut fix, junkfiles clean, disk scan, and a disk defrag

especially the registry cleanup will serve only to make your system slower.
In fact it may well serve to make it incapable of loading Windows.
All programs of this type have NO PLACE on your computer.

I think I am correct in saying that you have McAfee as your antivirus
It reports it is disabled as is your firewall
Have you done this please.

Hi Smudgeboss.
Just a reminder that we are volunteers giving our time freely and sometimes other commitments prevent us from responding quickly. We also sometimes confer with each other to determine a course of action which, hopefully, prevents us confusing the original poster.

Agree 100% with Macboatmaster's opinion of the Obit software and its removal.

Please downlad the free version of Revo Uninstaller, > http://www.revounins...e_download.html.

Start Revo, > go to top, Options, a window will open, Untick, Check for updates on startup, > press OK.
Close the program then restart Revo, A screen will open showing your installed programs. Please take a screen shot and post in your next reply.

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload...

Go to the bottom of the G2G reply box, click on, use full editor, then after typing in any response you have... click on browse...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on the upload button...then on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.

Hey, guys, thanks for getting back to me. I wasn't impatient, commented largely to keep the thread on the first page so it wouldn't get lost maybe I shouldn't have. Anyway I appreciate your help.

I used Revo uninstaller to uninstall all iobit stuff from the computer as both of you suggested.

Macboatmaster, I was a little unsure of your last statements. I am using McAfee Total protection. It does AV, and firewall. When I opened it just now it said all facets of it were active. Windows firewall is disabled, and it says in it's window "These settings managed by vendor application McAfee firewall" I hope this answers, if not let me know I am easy to get along with and will work with you.

Here is the screenshot from Revo Iammykyl. Thanks again.

1.

No problem please do not worry about it, it is just as my colleague said, sometimes you may have to wait a little, - different time zones and of course this is our hobby, we still have all the normal time consuming aspects of life in general.

2.

Macboatmaster, I was a little unsure of your last statements

Speccy shows AV and Firewall as DISABLED.
That was why I raised that issue with you

3. You have McAfee online backup running
Try disabling that - that running whilst using the system will certainly slow things down. Test again
How is it running please

4. Run a chkdsk / r and a system file check
http://www.sevenforu...disk-check.html

http://www.sevenforu...le-checker.html

5. If those complete and reveal no problems and the computer is still not right - I am not a fan of McAfee, even if you have used that for sometime, it maybe an update to their software that your computer does not like#
I would try uninstalling McAfee.
If it is the free edition of course you most certainly have no problem doing so, and if it is the paid for edition, then providing you have you necessary key or passowrd whatever they call it you may also of course reinstall if my suspicion that it is McAfee proves unfounded.
http://service.mcafe...spx?id=TS101331

I would then commission windows firewall

and install MSE. You do not of course have to stick with Microsoft Security Essentials the choice is of course yours.
http://windows.micro...rity-essentials

NOTE
BEFORE UNINSTALLING McAfee create a restore point please and check that it has been so created.
Start Windows button
right click computer
properties
system protection on left pane
create restore point

Thanks for the Revo screenshot.

after completing any chosen steps suggested by Macboatmaster and posting your observations and results.

*******

You have a large number of programs installed, happen some can be removed. When you start Revo, go to top of page, > view, > click the down arrow, > select Details.
Review the Revo page. If there are programs that you no longer use, or, 2 similar programs doing the same job and you would not miss one of them, uninstall them. do not remove any Microsoft items even though something may be repeated more than once.

This suggestion, thanks to Phillpower2.

"My first suggestion is to tidy up the data on your HDD so please follow the directions provided below starting with Autoruns

http://technet.micro...ernals/bb963902

1: Extract the Autoruns Zip file contents to a folder.

2: Double-click the "Autoruns.exe".

3: Click on the "Everything" tab

4: Go to File then to Export As or Save in some versions.

5: Save AutoRuns.txt file to known location like your Desktop.

6: Attach to your next reply"

Presuming that you ran the chkdsk /r that I asked for and not a simple chkdsk on its own go here to get the result pls

Control, Panel
Admin tools
event viewer
on left pane windows logs
click application
when that log loads click once on the source column, this sorts them into a specific order and then scroll to wininit entries
when you find the chkdsk from THAT one
click copy on right hand pane
and right click paste on reply

you may alternatively proceed to the step before the checking yourself of the wininit entries and on the right pane use the find and type
chkdsk
you will still have to check you are posting the correct chkdsk results

see this if you wish further guidance

Would you please continue with our recommendations and then post if you need further help with THOSE or with the result

If you are unsure of anything just ask

Good news again
Will wait to hear from you at your convenience.

It may help if you posted the autoruns requested by my colleague and then he will have chance to peruse it, while you continue with my suggestions
