12 KB in bad sectors.

Your hard drive is showing signs of failing.

Run hard drive diagnostics: http://www.tacktech....ay.cfm?ttid=287
Make sure, you select tool, which is appropriate for the brand of your hard drive.
Depending on the program, it'll create bootable floppy, or bootable CD.
If downloaded file is of .iso type, use ImgBurn: http://www.imgburn.com/ to burn .iso file to a CD (select "Write image file to disc" option), and make the CD bootable.

NOTE. If your hard drive is made by Toshiba, try the Hitachi DFT CD Image version of the software

Thanks to Broni for the instructions

sorry about that i knew hitachi wasthe hd had kids roaring in my ear all morning.........i ran the fitness test ,,,,,one or more corrupt sectors found.....gave me an option..... 1)erase disk entire disk will be rewritten,,,,,,,,2) sector repair, corrupt sectors are rewritten......note: erase disk will delete all data on the disk drive,,,,,sector repair will cause data loss in the repaired file.......so where do i go from here,,,,,thanks

2) sector repair, corrupt sectors are rewritten

This is your only option unless you want to lose everything on the disk. Please take note that this will not repair the hard drive but simply attempt to write the contents of the bad sectors to a good part of the hard drive. The bad sectors would then be marked as bad so no future data could be written to them.

Yep hard drive is failing. Normally when I start seeing bad sectors then I recommend a replacement quickly. Clone the drive to the new one and that way you lose nothing. Any residual issues can then be corrected since then we know we are not dealing with a failing HD.

Let me know if you need a cloning program so that you don't lose anything. If you want to do a fresh install you can connect the original hd a s secondary and copy your data from it then.
