I have a computer which I am trying to sell but I am having problems.
Before wiping the hard drive I took the PC more or less to bits to clean it properly.
While doing this I broke the graphics card while it was out of the machine.
I didn't put the card back it in and threw it away.
I didn't bother turning the computer back on and just boxed it up.
I have come to wipe the drive only to have a problem.

I turn the computer on and nothing comes on the screen (which is now obviously in the onboard grapics port).
I have tried to reset the bios various times but it still made no difference.

Any help really appreciated.

Couple of questions for you;

Do you not even get a BIOS screen when you are trying to boot up.

Have you checked that both the 4 pin and 24 pin power connections are securely in place on the MB.

Is that one 4GB stick of Ram or 2 X 2GB sticks.

Have you tried both rear video ports (D Sub and the DVI ports)

Yes both power connectors are in.

RAM is 2 x 2gb

i cant try the dvi port due to not having a lead, but i have never used it.

What about the BIOS screen do you get one or is the screen permanently blank.

Have you tried a single stick of Ram in slot 1.

yes i have tried the single ram etc

i get nothing on the screen at all. it does flash like there should be somethere there and the screen stays on instead of showing "no signal" but nothing is there

Have you tried the screen with another computer, a notebooks VGA port will do.

Check the condition of the pc to monitor lead, no bent pins in the end connections and that both ends are secure (finger tighten only)

i have tried 2 monitors with 2 different leads =)

Can you tell us what if anything else you have tried so that it is not suggested.

ill tell you everything ive done

tried the jumper bios reset
pulled the battery for 10 secs bios reset
tried usual monitor with pc
tried second monitor with pc
tried a couple different vga leads
made sure all connections are ok


after i did all that i left the computer to run, and it seems as it loads up windows etc

Not all MBs behave the same way when you are trying to clear the BIOS but one thing that you must do with all MBs is remove all sources of power to them (including the CMOS battery) and then press the power on button to drain any residual charge from the MB, put the battery back in after a 5-10 minutes (use a new one if you can) reassemble the computer and see how it goes.

Can I ask whether you have another keyboard that you can try and does the MB have an onboard speaker.

i have another keyboard but it's usb and it doesnt work when i turn the computer on, but the keyboard i use i know works with it.
i have tried them steps while trying to reset the bios
yes the bios has a speaker and now and then it will beep twice suggesting theres a problem with the graphics, but 95% of the time itll do the normal single beep and then it appears to be loading windows.

Sorry but without a screen you have no way of knowing for sure that the keyboard works, have you tried tapping F8 or the Del key when you power up.

A recent thread where a new CMOS battery did not clear the BIOS but a second new battery did http://www.geekstogo...91#entry2201391

Two beeps suggests memory problems, see http://acronymsonlin.../beep_chart.asp

Remove both sticks of Ram and power up the machine, let us know what happens.

Any chance of loaning another GPU? If it works, would indicate problem with integrated graphics.
