I keep getting an error
windows cannot find c:\program files\mcafee.com\vso\mcvsftsn.exe

I deleted Mcafee when I got the machine - yesterday - cause it was a trial program. Acutally there are more on here I would like to get rid of.

I've only had the pc 24 hours - I ran ad aware and spybot and the antivirus software and crap cleaner.

PLEASE help - Joanne

Under Add/Remove Software uninstall ViewPoint manager.

Check the items listed below in HijackThis, close all windows except HijackThis and click Fix checked:

R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz
R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Page_URL = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz
R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Start Page = http://www.dell4me.com/mywaybiz

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

In HijackThis click Config > Misc Tools > Open uninstall Manager
Find and select
MyWaySearch Assistant
Click Delete this entry.
  • Download the Registry Search Tool.
  • Unzip the contents of RegSrch.zip to a convenient location.
  • Double-click on RegSrch.vbs.
  • If you have an anti-virus installed it might prompt you about a running script. Please ignore this warning and allow the script to run.
  • In the "Enter search string (case insensitive) and click OK..." box paste this string:
    • mcvsftsn
  • Click "OK" to search the registry for that string.
  • Wait for a few minutes while it completes the search.
  • Click "OK" to open the results in WordPad.
  • Copy and paste the entire results into your next post.
And please stop deleting things you encounter at random, just because you don't know what they are of where they came from.
You are not making it easier for yourself. :tazz:

Thank you!!!!

This was not in the hijack this log after I deleted ViewPoint manager
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [ViewMgr] C:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exe

MyWaySearch Assistant was not in the uninstall manager in hijackthis; however I do still see it when I go to add remove programs

Download and install http://www.worldstar...-cleaner4.3.htm

Use the program to clean your registry but make sure it is set to make backups (it should be by default)

Is there another place to get the reg cleaner? The link is not working for me. I get a "The page cannot be displayed" error. Actually, I seem to be getting alot of those today - I got them earlier trying to get into geekstogo.

Also - what about the MyWaySearch Assistant program -- will the reg cleaner get rid of it too?

Try this link.
http://www.majorgeek...ownload460.html

It should get rid of any orphaned entries. So if the file the Uninstall points to is gone it should remove it.

I'm feeling kinda stoopid at the moment - please bare with me.

I downloaded the file and it appears I have to manually check things off. There is a lot of stuff I don't recognize and per your first request -- I'm leary of getting rid of.

I'm not sure how to proceed.

Thanks for your patience.

Select all the ones with a green dot in front.
Those are the ones safe to remove.
You did check if the option to make backups was activated?

:tazz: There weren't any with green dots. Do I have to get it to do something first or does it open with green dots?

Now I'm really feeling dumb.

No. It was me being dumb this time. I was thinking about the wrong program.

Select to make backup as shown below
Select Options > Registry Cleanup > Method Manual
Select Tools > Registry Cleanup > Do them all

Click Select All and Remove Selected

OK - I did it. :tazz: It found and fixed 131 things.

I restarted, and My Way Search Assistant is still there with no button to remove it.

Am I caring too much about it being on my pc?

Joanne

PS - but on a good note, the windows "cannot find c:\program files\mcaffee.com\vso\mcvsftsn.exe error" is NOT poppinig up any more.

You probably noticed the Uninstall menu tab in RegCleaner.

Is MyWay listed there?

Note it also comes in the flavors MySearch, MyWeb, MyWebsearch etc
