Aha. It looks as if we are getting somewhere. :tazz:

Click Start > Run > copy&paste
regedit.exe /e C:\mywayinstall.txt "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\7D449D87B79A4004BAA05BDA60389904"
>OK

Doing this will create the file C:\mywayinstall.txt
Copy the content of that file into your next post.

The only time when such a file is not created, is when the registry key does not exist. But I copied it from your search results.

I can give you a regfile to delete that key.
The export was only meant to act as a backup so I'd want you to make a Manual Restore point: http://www.bleepingc...l56.html#manual

Then copy the part in bold below and save it as joansway.reg

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\7D449D87B79A4004BAA05BDA60389904]

Doubleclick the file and confirm you want to merge it with the registry.

do I cut & paste

REGEDIT4

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Installer\UserData\S-1-5-18\Products\7D449D87B79A4004BAA05BDA60389904]

into notepad and save it as joansway.reg

then when I open it, it will ask me if I want to merge?

Copy it into notepad and save it as joansway.reg (Set Filetype to All files)

Then doubleclick to activate and it will ask if you want to merge it with the registry.

OK - I merged the files.

I looked for mywayinstall.txt - there was no file

I searched on *way.txt and *way*.txt and there were no files either.

BUT***

I do have the button to remove it in add/remove programs.

or is it better to remove with the reg tool or hjt?

:tazz:

The button will probably point to a file that is no longer there, so better use RegCleaner or HijackThis.

regcleaner & hjt did not list the mywaysearch asst

I got rid of it in add/remove programs. It did ask me for a file, but when I hit cancel, it did something and got rid of it.

Yeah! Thank you, thank you! Especially for helping me on a Saturday morning.

Should I post any other logs or run any other tools to verify that all is gone?

I'd like to see one last HijackThis log, before we button it up.

Please do have a look at my site about removing and preventing spyware.

Can you give this one another try?

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {BA52B914-B692-46c4-B683-905236F6F655} - (no file)

Let me know if it's stubborn.

I got rid of it - again.

Since I got rid of it before and it came back, can we leave this thread open a couple of days so I can send you a note if it comes back?

I REALLY appreciate the work you've done.

Thank you!

I didn't want to be back here either - the My Way Search Assistant is listed again in my add/remove programs.

I can't remove it with hjt or the registry tool.

Is it a big deal - should I just ignore it?
