Either I have misread something - although I do NOT think so, but of course we all make mistakes at times.

OR you are now posting something that has not been said before

YOU said on your opening post

I tried to create an image backup of my computer using Acronis.
It gave me the below error message:
Backup failed. No reason given as to why.

NOW you say

I'm thinking to backup all my important files the simple way (no image) and then try to restore an Acronis image I created in April of this year. Acronis has the ability to browse to the Go Flex Drive O. And then browse to the actual image file. That implies that the image restore might actually work.

That is a totally different situation.

Had I have known that I would not have suggested creating an image.

At the moment you have a bootable system and Windows loads.

What I said was - not knowing anything about the existing image from April (albeit of course it is a long time ago) you may wish to consider an image
If the image was created - there is NO REASON to believe that if your attempts to put this right, went haywire, that the image would not restore to what you have NOW

That is far better I would suggest than having to start all over again, as of course unless you have the installation media, all programs are lost.

FROM where did you install what you say was Ubuntu WUBI = I use Ubuntu on one of my computers as the sole O/S and on another it is a dual boot with Vista. - as the full install and a boot to grub
I have also used WUBI twice and I have not seen the problem you encountered . neither have I seen it install without the screens aforementioned.

The choice must be yours.

I have already given you my opinion at least twice.

I would LEAVE it and see how you go

Macboatmaster is right about potential damage from changing drive letters. Only do it if you're sure. Without more information, I would remove the drive letter from the System Reserved partition to avoid future mishaps, and leave it at that. If it works, no point in restoring an old image. Being able to find the old image file doesn't imply that your chances of success are any better or worse. You can feel free to try making a new image, too. Just don't bet the farm on it, even if it appears to work. I'm still curious to see the root level directories for your drives, just as a matter of curiosity. Obviously, if one of the folders is "porn" or whatever, you can just leave that out. I would like to see how things are laid out, and what other mysteries might be lurking. lol

As for how you got into this mess in the first place: Ubuntu One is meant to be a privilege for actual Ubuntu users. I would suggest Windows Skydrive, which gives away the same amount of free storage space for Windows users, and integrates nicely with Windows. If you need more, I know Comodo Security gives away another 5GB with their free backup utility. Haven't tried it myself, but hey-- it's free. Let us know how it goes.

So what please have you decided in view of my colleagues posts and indeed my last on 16

I really do think, you are best leaving sleeping dogs lying - until and if it starts barking

AND we all have our own preferences - so I am not saying that Comodo is not good, I do not use it.
I have researched it in the past and my opinion has not changed.
I do not like it

I do not know if you will get the full results as I am registered.
However you will get the general idea.
That said, you can find people who do not like it, like me and others who swear by it.

Hello Macboatmaster,

Question:
So what please have you decided in view of my colleagues posts and indeed my last on 16.

I will continue to pretend that there is nothing wrong with my computer until such time as my computer stands up and bites me.

My number one priority will be to backup all my important files.

My number two priority will be to do nothing in regards to renaming or changing drives or partitions.

My number three priority will be to make sure that I do not rely on an image backup as there is a high probability that it will be corrupt.

But nonetheless,
I will buy a large external hard drive and use Windows 7 image making capabilities to try and make a backup image.
Just on the off chance that the image will actually work.

Question:
AND we all have our own preferences - so I am not saying that Comodo is not good, I do not use it.
I have researched it in the past and my opinion has not changed.
I do not like it.

Regarding the above. I'm lost. Can you rephrase your comments. I just don't understand what you are asking.

loonyless, I think you've got exactly the right idea.

Anyway, sounds like a happy ending here! Good day, everyone!
