Hello,
I'm not sure if I'm putting this in the right section. I've looked every where online for an answer to this but had no luck.
Basically, I work at home as a transcriber using Word Perfect as this is the program my company wants us to use. I know there
is a way to go from speech to text using your own voice, but I'm wondering if there is any way out there to go from audio to
text. I receive audio files from my company and type them out using a foot pedal and a whoole lot of patience. I guess what I
am looking for is something that can roughly put the audio into text format so I can then just go back through and edit. I'm aware
that it wouldn't be accurate without training the computer with the voices but like I said, I would just want a rough text. Yeah, yeah, this is kind of an easy way out lol, but just wondering if it's possible.

It might take some training, but you could try Dragon Naturally Speaking Voice Recognition Software. Possibly to prevent extraneous noise from affecting the software, you could try feeding the audio direct from the audio tape player. Computers have a line input which might be the one to use. Or, just place the microphone next to the player's speaker and let it type after learning sounds this way.

Automatic voice recognition software normally reduces the manual transcription needs. But Automatic voice recognition technology is not still matured to produce accurate transcription for non-American accents, or with people speaking quickly or multiple speakers audio files. If you have more than one voice it is almost impossible to get a good transcript. Add to that any background noise or a weak recording and you can pretty much forget it.

So, after automatic transcription, you have to massage this transcription into the final form. Some of the massages are

Correct incorrectly transcribed words/phrases.
Correct punctuation/sentence breaks.
Define paragraph breaks.

It can be used to convert speech, audio, voice, etc. to texts.Turnaround speed is fast and the process to upload files is very simple. It's highly accurate and the cheapest around I guess. I only used ScribeOn to convert my audio/video files to text. It's very helpful because I have hearing impairment on both ears. Their rate even didn't hurt my pocket. The results are accurate and I'm happy with the outcome.

They can also do transcription of different languages. The price is cheaper by half the price with what I was using previously as I've mentioned above and the turnaround time is much faster!
