Howdy and welcome to G2G:

First of all, are you sure it is Safe Mode (Safe Mode showing in all four corners)??

Next, can you find out what your friend did just prior to this happening??

Lastly, can you boot into BIOS (setup) and click on the "Default BIOS Settings" option .. Save the change and reboot.. Does/did that help??

I have a similar problem. My computer restarts in a mode that looks like safe mode but doesn't act like safe mode. I have a network connection but it doesn't read my mouse or anything like that. I ran sfc and it didn't detect any problems so my ownly thinking is a virus at this point. Any suggestions?

thanks for the response. it is in safe mode, all 4 corners. it was supposedly unplugged to move to another locatiob and when rebooted this problem started.
i set the default bios settings with same results. it hangs at the win me splash screen and when tured off and back on goes to safe mode. i also have tried scanreg /fix and restore.

Okay.. Power down the system and open the case.. Touch some part of the metal case before going inside..

Now, unseat and reseat everything from the hdd connectors to the ram to any PCI cards.. make sure you get them in good and tight..
