My computer won't login when I boot it up, so, I thought I should make a fresh start on it.
But, since I can't login, I can't get to System Restore or run a boot disk. This is REALLY frustrating! :help:
Details you might need to know: Windows XP Professional, it says American Megatrends and AMBIOS on bootup, Windows Sevice Pack 3 and I can't find any sign of a make! :o Please help!

Hi,

Some questions...
- What happens when you try to login? Any errors what did you see?
- Do you have a Windows XP Pro CD to install?
- Any virus problem lately?

No errors, just an exclamation mark in a yellow triangle, and the window goes fuzzy, no disk and no viruses.

Is it a name brand system and if so what make and model?
If not a name brand system then was Windows preinstalled?
If not preinstalled who installed Windows and with what disk?

I'm not sure what make or model it is, but I do know that Windows was pre-installed.

Was it bought from Dell, Gateway. HP, Compaq, IBM or a local shop that custom builds systems?

I have no idea it's very old. I don't believe it's Dell, Compaq or any of the modern makes.

OK is there a sticker somewhere on it that tells what the original OS was and if so what was it?
The sticker would be located on a side, back, bottom or sometimes even on the inside of the case.

Safe Mode doesn't exist on XP, I think. I tried it once and no Safe Mode.

It does exist and how are you trying to get to it?
F8 during bootup is what you normally tap to get to the Advanced Boot Options where Safe Mode is one of the options.

I've just done it and it didn't work. Was the screen meant to go funny?
