Hi,

I would like to ask some help on my problem. I have an old industrial PC with 1 PS/2 port-6-pin DIN (black). When I plug in my PS/2 keyboard it seem to work fine. No problem. But when I tried removing the keyboard and replace with my PS/2 mouse it doesn't seem to work. The mouse isn't responding and Windows says it did not detect a PS/2 mouse attached.

Please help. Is this a hardware issue or a software issue?

I would suspect that is because it is meant for the keyboard. I would suspect the mouse is actually a serial mouse on that system.

Thanks for your reply! But how do i changed that port to accept my PS/2 mouse?

You don't. You need to get a serial mouse.
If you can is it possible to attach a picture of the back connections on the computer?
Let me ask does the back of your system look anything like this below?

Hi! Thanks for the photo and yes it looks similar! I will try and get a photo of the system I have. You will see that it has 2 AT 5-pin DIN connectors too.

If the serial looks like the one I show then your mouse would have to be a serial connector like this below.

Right above the PS2 port is the monitor port then above it is the COM1 port.

Com 1 is the serial port.
I don't think you should have to install a driver for the mouse as every OS since XP should have the driver already installed by default.

Will the UART 1 and 2 settings on the BIOS caused problems with the COM1 and COM2 ports if they are not disabled? I have a PS/2 mouse and used a PS/2 to serial connector converter and plugged it on COM1 and COM2 but it's still not responding.

What should be my UART 1 and 2 settings to make my com1 and com2 work for a serial mouse?
