OK this will be a bit convulated but it should cure the problem (fingers crossed)

Go to control Panel > Programs and Features
On the top left select installed updates

Select IE9 and uninstall
Reboot
Go to control Panel > Programs and Features
On the top left select installed updates
Select IE8 and uninstall
Reboot

Now reinstall the IE9 that you downloaded

Does that fix the problem ?

Also any other problems evident ?

OK lets do it under the command line :) IE9 First and then IE8

You will need to open an elevated command prompt for these

To get an elevated command prompt :
Go Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right click command prompt and select "Run as Administrator"

If you can't see it under Installed Updates, run this command twice from an command prompt (cmd.exe) with adminrights [1]: (Copy the command and paste into the command window)

FORFILES /P %WINDIR%\servicing\Packages /M Microsoft-Windows-InternetExplorer-*9.*.mum /c "cmd /c echo Uninstalling package @fname && start /w pkgmgr /up:@fname /norestart"

this removes the IE9 with the help of the command line. Credits go to Nadine K. (German MS Support Engineer).

In the elevated command prompt then do the following

C:\:WINDOWSie8spuninstspuninst.exe

Oops did not see page two

Download Complete Internet Repair to your desktop

Unzip all the files to their own folder on the desktop
Within the folder double click CIntRep
The programme will then run
Select the items I have highlighted
Press go
Let me know if it is able to conduct the repair, there is a log at the bottom

I rebooted manually. From what I see in the log it doesn't look like it found IE 8 or 9 to repair, is that a fair assumption?

I continue to get the errors. I didn't attempt to install IE 9 again.

Here is the log:

So it is just the IE problem remaining now ? I am continuing to search :)

And according to that you are right no IE8 or 9

I wonder what would happen if we tried to install IE 7 ?

I unhid a couple of updates to install, page 1 of the attachment shows the two I unhid, page 2 shows one of the two installed, page 3 shows the installed updates, page 4 shows the pending installation of the updates, page 5 shows the actual "kb" updates. I took full screen shots, for the display of the time sequence.

Thank you for your continued efforts in trying to figure out what in the world went wrong with my system, i just knew it had to be related to a bug since it was acting wonky.

Here is the direct link for the failed install, download to your desktop and install manually. Let me know if that works

IE8 shows in the installed list, when you checked the uninstall list did you go right to the bottom as that is where the IE updates are stored in amongst the windows ones

I got an error (attached) when I tried to install the update.

I looked at the installed updates again just to be sure; I went to control panel>wIndows updates>view update history>installed updates, the list has the updates in chronological order, in two groups, "Earlier this year" and "A long time ago", Internet Explorer 8 isn't in either list. But, I noticed there was a selection for uninstalling a "Program", I thought, AH HA!, IE is a program! I selected the link and that took me to "programs and features" :( , (been there, done that), but I made screen prints (attached) for you to take a look, maybe I'm missing it. Some of the programs from the previous page are on the next page also.

Thank you, Vilma

Apologies for the delay in responding, back to work yesterday and a busy evening.

The link to the update worked :) .

On the fixits, I used the automatic fixit button rather than the manual instruction. Method E gave me the following message "This Microsofr fix does not apply to your operating system or application version", at the end of the manual instruction you are supposed to reinstall IE8. I didn't attempt to install IE8 or IE9.

This morning I decided to check for updates, there were 6 updates, 2 for Windows and 4 for MS Office 7, I went ahead and installed and rebooted. Everything installed and is in the update history, but 1 of the Windows updates is waiting to be installed, again. Do you want screen shots?

Aye just the KB number then I can see if there is a problem with it... Still searching for a resolution to the IE problem, but it does appear unique
