I don't know why MSSE doesn't remove stuff it finds. Delete this file if it hasn't already:

C:\Users\Alyssa\AppData\Local\Temp\nsgA9A8.tmp\Install.dll

The msiexec error is probably an unfinished install. I would not worry about it for now. Just go on with the other instructions.

Ok, I did all the instructions you requested in the last post. I deleted that file somehow. I do want to mention that when I click on Firefox, it launches almost immediately. This is a SIGNIFICANT improvement already. I do want to mention that I searched dell Studio 1555 won't connect wirelessly, and found that other users are having this issue, which I found no threads with any solutions as of yet. I want to say that it's a possibility that the wireless adapter is corrupted some how? I tried the tricks of removing it from control panel's device manager and reboot it installs it successfully ,but still the same results.

It connects to the network like before, I have to type the password, it just won't connect to it any further than that. It's really strange. I see the network icon in the bottom right of the screen with the circle spinning as it's trying to connect, but then it times out eventually and says it can't connect.

We can probably even make Firefox a bit faster.

Download & save SpeedyFox for Windows (570 KB) from http://www.crystalidea.com/speedyfox

Close Firefox and run SpeedyFox by right clicking and Run As Admin.

Click on Speed Up My Firefox.

Then exit.

I assume this is a Dell Studio 1555 laptop. What is the service tag. What driver version are you currently using?

Get the free version of Speccy:

http://www.filehippo...download_speccy (Look in the upper right for the Download
Latest Version button) Download, Save and Install it. Run Speccy. When it finishes (the little icon in the bottom left will stop moving), File, Save as Text File, (to your desktop) note the name it gives. OK. Open the file in notepad and delete the line that gives the serial number of your Operating System. (It will be near the top about 10 lines down.) Attach the file to your next post.

You can uninstall Speccy now. We don't need it any more.

Have you tried reverting back to an older driver?

Right click on Computer and select Manage (Continue) and then Device Manager then click on the arrow in front of Network Adapters then right click on the wireless adapter and select Properties then Drivers then Roll Back Driver, OK?

Dell has older drivers which you might try:

http://www.dell.com/...leid=2731129104

(If the link doesn't work, go to the dell support site, drivers page and put in your service tag then open the network section. The top driver has a previous versions button. Click on it. You should see a list of drivers:
tic TRWFW0986D, A01 1/4/2010 1:33:12 PM
TIC157813, A00 11/3/2009 11:42:39 AM

TIC153101, A02 4/21/2009 3:18:58 AM
TIC152458, A01 2/17/2009 6:22:29 AM
TIC153101, A02 2/17/2009 6:17:07 AM

You can also try Intel's latest drivers.

Go to Intel's driver update page:

http://www.intel.com...detect/wireless

and run their utility.

See if they have a driver for your wireless. You may also need a newer chipset utility.

I think I went a bit out of order again. I only tried one of the drivers then I went straight to Intels site and upgraded the Chipset driver. Should I be rolling that back and trying each wireless driver first? If yes, how do I roll that back if possible? Also, what procedure should I be taking to install these drivers. I'm doing it from the device manager, and sometimes it says that the driver I have currently installed is newer than the one I'm trying to install.

I don't think the chipset driver will hurt anything. It's possible that the intel driver might work too so go ahead and try it. Newer is usually (but not always) better.

Since we are trying older drivers it is normal that the installed driver is newer. I usually just download, save and then right click and Run As Admin.
