First download and then run the McAfee Removal Tool to ensure that the firewall has gone

Then run the MSFixit on this page

Once done we will proceed from there if windows updates

Both steps done. Then I went to Windows Updates and clicked the "check for updates" and get the 80072EE2. Both of these steps I have seen before.

My windows updates screen says "you receive updates" "managed by your systems administrator" I understand that is wrong. I set to happen automatically. I made no setting such as this. But I see no way to modify it. I can change the settings all I want and changes will take, but this does not change. This other guy said it was an effect of a malware siezing the control to filter what could get in - thus no SP1 and some other stuff too, apparently. I find this to be a bit of a stretch, except for this other weirdness that goes on.

OK two things to try now the first will hopefully fix it

Open an elevated command prompt :

Go Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right click command prompt and select "Run as Administrator"
Type in the following command

NETSH WINSOCK RESET

Once that has completed reboot the computer and try the updates again

Then

Please download MiniToolBox, save it to your desktop and run it.

OK all update components are correct with no errors

Next we will reset the HTTP

Open and elevated command prompt :

Go Start > All Programs > Accessories
Right click Command Prompt and select "Run as Administrator"
In the black box copy/paste the following command and press enter :

netsh winhttp import proxy source=ie

Once it has completed, exit and reboot
Try windows updates again

Could you reinstall McAfee as I feel that the culprit is there

Once McAfee is installed then try the updates

Download the trial version from here

Ok, it is on. It asked to uninstall MBAM, then told me I needed to uninstall MSE, so all that is off and the McAfee is on and active. And a fresh reboot. No change. Is it about the weirdest thing you ever saw?

OK you can now uninstall McAfee again as that failed, use the uninstall tool afterwards .. I have been doing some reading and sometimes the iTunes Bonjour service can cause this type of problem.. Unfortunately the MS error code just says it is broke

So could you go to Control Panel > Programmes and Features
Uninstall Bonjour
Then try yet again

Ok, uninstalled via control panel, then via the tool. Installed MSE. Ininstalled bonjour. No change.

In looking around on this error it seems there are many many fixes people say work. This is a variation of a common one, taken from a site with no 'magic fix' types of things. What do you think, it seems as if worst case it would be harmless. I see I have 4 devices.

TRY THIS FIRST
Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum.
I have been to every other forum & followed so much advice over a span of a week I fixed the problem myself, after having microsoft, computer tech & my internet company spend hours trying to figure out why I couldnt update windows.
I had code errors 80072efe & 80072eec. Even after a complete system restore back to factory default the problem still didnt go away.
After trying everything & sourcing all the help I could get from the so called professionals, the only thing left for me to do was to uninstall my wireless device, connect my laptop to the modem/router with an ethernet cord, which prompted my computer to install a new device.Within seconds windows starting updating automatically. I waited for the updates to be completed & let the computer restart, disconnected the ethernet cord & ran windows update again. SUCCESS!!
It was something so easy and simple & I should have done this at the beggining & saved myself all the hassle of downloading fixit programs, registry cleans, registry edits, changing internet settings, prompting commands, and so on and so on. Even after remote assistance with microsoft they couldnt figure it out.
The other minor thing I did do which Im not sure wouldve made a difference or not, was replace the filter just in case it was faulty. I dont think there was anything wrong with it though because I have other computers connecting and updating with no problems. Usually your internet provider supplies you with a spare filter when you first sign up.
So I hope this helps someone out. TRY THIS FIRST

Intel Centreno Advanced-N 6200 AGN is the wireless adapter
If you uninstall that and then reboot windows will reinstall it
