Computer boots up fine but now and then, screen goes black when opening a new program but programs still runs in background. What's the deal?

sounds like malware...do you have spyware removal installed? HijackThis! installed? if not go to downloads.com and download Spybot, Ad-Aware, and HijackThis!. make sure and get updates for each one then run them and see what comes up. if spyware or malware is found by the first two and cannot be removed by them then run HijackThis! and post the results on the Hijack forum on this site.
