hi all...yes, its me YET AGAIN

just had a thought and was wondering if it was possible to remove the hard drive (100 gb) from my old pc tower and install it in my new tower and use it as storage only, rather than buying an external storage device...cos im a cheapskate

It is possible to do what you ask but there are certain factors that you need to consider such as, if the HDD is the IDE type does the motherboard have an IDE socket, is there enough room inside the case, does the power supply have a spare power cable and can it provide the additional power that the additional HDD will require.

Post a full list of your hardware here so we can check for compatibility.

well..curiosity got the better of me so i had a look...it appears that my new pc is SATA and my old one is IDE i take it that the swap is a no go

Some MBs have both types of connection, what is the brand and model of your MB.

For MBs that do not have both SATA and IDE connections an adaptor can be used, an example http://www.scan.co.u...inc-hdd-dvd-rom

okee dokee...what exact information do you need and i'll try to find it


i had a look at the motherboard and there are no identifying marks that i can see...not even a name, unless its printed on the underside but im not too keen to remove it for a look

If the computer is operational download and run Speccy to get the system information http://www.piriform.com/speccy

Click on the Summary tab and take and post a screenshot for us;

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... then after typing in any response you have... click on browse...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on the upload button...then on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.

hi mate...sorry, but none of that makes much sense to me..can you work out if if im able to fit it if i buy the adapter...there seems to be plenty of room in the case,
