Upon restart the notification doesn't appear at first, I check services and it's set on Automatic delayed starts. After a few minutes the notification appears again (meaning both notifications, Defender and Antivirus) and in services it appears set om Manual start.

I also rememberred about an older problem (don't know if relevant), I keep associating mp3s with Winamp, but whenever I open a movie, the mp3s get associated to BSPlayer (my default movie player).

I don't thinks so... I discovered IOBit has some settings for repairing the Defender issue. In Advanced Fix - Security, IOBIt has Repair Windows Defender (fix all registry entries to default). I tried this fix some days ago, and upon restart both notifications (Defender and Antivirus) didn't appear at first, but then appeared again after a few minutes.

To make sure, I disabled IOBit now from startup and then set Defender on automatic delayed start. On restart the notification showed again after a few minutes.

I unchecked mp3 in BSPlayer and I see it doesn't change associations now anymore.

Lets reset defender from the registry. Did you try IE10 ?

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

I uninstalled IOBIT, notifications were still there, but when I clicked on Windows Defender I could update it and the notification disappeared (didn't try the Defender link the past few times, so I'm not sure if IOBIt did the trick). I still get the notification with the antivirus not recognised.

Ok, I disabled the notification for the antivirus.

Chrome is working really well as far as I've surfed today. I think I might stick to it now that I figured the problem with the blurry letters. IE 10 seems ok too, faster than Firefox anyway.

How could I get rid of the adware www.mysearchresults.com? It installed only in Firefox today. I changed it from my homepage, but it doesn't appear as an add-on anywhere. The search bar appears next to each new tab in Firefox, it doesn't appear anywhere else in the other browsers. Also I don't see it in Installed Programs.

Yes, this fixed the problem!

All in all, Chrome seems to work very well so I'm giving up Firefox. No more problems so far...

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run OTL

• Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

• Then click the Run Fix button at the top
• Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that

• Click Start.
• Open My Computer.
• Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
• Select the View Tab.
• Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
• Click Yes to confirm.
• Click OK.

Now that you are clean, to help protect your computer in the future I recommend that you get the following free programmes:

Malwarebytes.

Update and run weekly to keep your system clean

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link
