So I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 onto my old laptop but I don't have sidebar on the left. I'm a windows geek and have never used linux before so I have no idea how to fix this, I done a search to see what I could do and tried a few things, none of which worked. Any ideas?
Thanks

Linux first installed from my experience doesn't have what we know as a windows sidebar. You have to modify and install some different software to get something similar to it. For example if you want to view your computers performance and usage you could install conky and modify it (in the Ubuntu forums they go into great detail about it).
