Your bookmarks should be safe, however export them to be on the safe side. Ignore AVG for AdwCleaner, it is just being paranoid :)

I did so, yes - I've had to accept a LOT of scary warnings throughout this process to be honest (do not run Omnifix, you will destroy your OS!). I don't see that I have much choice right now, to be honest!

There are uninstall details here, it looks fairly straight forward. So save your bookmarks but uninstall everything else

OK, will do so. On googling, it seems that in 2012 they removed that reset option for some reason - hence I guess no option but uninstall. Will try now :)

I think it worked! Quick search thus far, no redirect. Will try more now to check. Thank you so much for your help (should I have simply uninstalled Chrome in the first place?? Would that have saved me a gazillion scary hours of downloading so many fixes/the warnings that came with them? No way?!)

I do have one last question, if I may. Post-redirect virus, is the machine now compromised in any way - is there anything further I should or could do? I guess don't fully trust it now, is the bottom line

It would have cleared some but the other removals that needed doing were done by OTL and AdwCleaner, as it was the toolbar elements rather than a virus

The ones you had were just advertising/redirect type malware and should not have compromised the system

Is all OK now before I remove my bits and bobs ?

Phew. Big relief. I appreciate that, don't want to be scared of my own laptop :)

Thank you SO much for all your help, I am so appreciative. The Paypal link I saw on here somewhere is the best way to thank you all for this site, right?

Uninstall Hitmanpro via programmes and features in control panel

Subject to no further problems :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

Run AdwCleaner and press uninstall

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

    :Commands
    [resethosts]
    [emptytemp]
    [Reboot]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Remove ComboFix
  • Hold down the Windows key + R on your keyboard. This will display the Run dialogue box
  • In the Run box, type in ComboFix /Uninstall
(Notice the space between the "x" and "/")
    then click OK

    Posted Image
  • Follow the prompts on the screen
  • A message should appear confirming that ComboFix was uninstalled

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Posted Image Your Java is out of date.
