I just bought the Samsung NP300E7Z, and it doesn't have an operating system. I want to start using Linux Ubuntu with the computer but I can't seem to get it right. I'm working from a Samsung netbook which doesn't have a CD drive, so I have to work from USB. I've set the boot device priority on the laptop to USB HDD, and I've got the ubuntu- 12.10-desktop-i386.iso (which I downloaded with a torrent)as well as the boot image (found on the Ubuntu website) but it still doesn't work. What am I doing wrong?

Did you simply place the files onto the USB or did you use a tool to make the USB bootable like LinuxLive USB creator? Here's the website for the program:
http://www.linuxliveusb.com/
This is what I use and I have found it to be excellent, though I'm sure you have other options.

Congrats, it is a great operating system and it is probably one of the best documented and easy to use Linux distros.
