The alot bar is not required. the guy whose computer this is doesn't know where it came from :( !

i moved the toolbar folder from the programs folder to the recycle bin.

i restarted with all services enabled. it appears to be a nice clean start. i'm disabling various items that have been loaded and that are no longer needed.

i removed the sophos anti-virus program (never updated) and installed microsoft security essentials (the real program, downloaded from MS site). this will update regularly.

malwarebytes is installed and running.

i'll check back in a couple of days and report on current status. this isn't my real job so i need to go back to that.

can you recommend anti-virus s/w or will the MS product combined with malwarebytes do a good job?

Thanks,
Sally
