Hi, I need your help, please.
Been getting bsod for few months now and they're getting more frequent. It used to happen when watching video, now it can happen with just a browser open.
The system is XP sp3.
I tried error check, no change. Checked device manager, run a few spyware removal programs, removed all unnecessary programs, defragged, restored to an earlier image, pre-bsod. Tried reinstalling that realtek driver, but no change.

I've run out of ideas, you are my last resort.

Is the video on-board or a add-on PCI/PCI-E/AGP card?

It's not a known brand-name system, it's called Redten, was buit by a now defunct ISP company in UK, who sold them off cheaply when they went bust. It's been working great since 2008.

It's XP SP3, 1Gb memory, 3.07 gigahertz Intel Pentium 4, on-board graphics Intel® 82945G Express Chipset Family (128 MB).

I asked you for Display Adapter info when I meant Audio, sorry. Could you post the info from Device Manager for Sound, Video and Game Controller please.

There are some newer drivers on the RealTek site, try them and see if that fixes the problem.

There is a list : Audio Codecs, Legacy Audio Drivers, Legacy Video Capture Drivers, Media Control Devices, Realtek High Definition Audio, Video Codecs. Let me know what info I should copy here.

Re. new drivers, I found there a new version for XP and installed it. Let me see if bsod happens again or not. Will post an update in 24 hrs or so.

A bsod happened, but according to BlueScreenView it wasn't realtek, but ntoskrnl.exe.
If you look at the log in my first post, this error also happens from time to time, but nowhere near as often as realtek. What is your advice?

Two of the dumps point to Maxthon.exe which is a component of the Maxthon web browser. Are you using it or do you have it installed?

The other 3 all point to RtkHDAud.sys which is part of the Realtek Audio driver so there is definitely something wrong with the Realtek driver.

Let's see if you can rollback the driver for the Realtek audio device.

Open Device Manager
Expand Sound, video and game controllers
Click on the Drive tab

If Rollback driver is selectable, click on it then reboot when done. That will get you back to before you installed the updated driver.

Now repeat the above. If Rollback is selectable, click on it again. That will take you back to the driver version previous to the one that is causing the problem (hopefully). Reboot and see if that fixes it.

I had three different editions of Maxthon browser installed, 1, 2 and 3. I uninstalled 1 and 2 and kept 3 because I only got it couple of weeks ago and the bsod problems started several months earlier.

I tried rolling back twice, first one went ok, back to the version from 2008 and the second didn't happen coz the system didn't have anything else to roll back to.
So now I'm back on the version that caused the problems in the first place. Should I go back to the latest version you found, from 2012? or maybe there's a way of getting an even earlier version, before 2008?

Yes, go back to the latest version.

Uninstall Maxthon browser for a while as a test, since it was flagged in two dumps as the cause.
