I do not believe there is any malware remaining but without the log I cannot confirm that

How is the computer behaving now ?

Computer is much quieter; however 2 days ago the firewall flagged ns9.tmp. I blocked it and researched on Google with these results:

Generally I treat their results with caution as it could belong to any process as it is in the temp folder

Could you run a fresh OTL all user scan please

Do you notice anything unusual with your host file

Warning This fix is only relevant for this system and no other, using on another computer may cause problems

Be advised that when the fix commences it will shut down all running processes and you may lose the desktop and icons, they will return on reboot

Run OTL
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following

Yes, I thought it could be a hacker/ rootkit that deleted my host file!

Could you please say why is this: [email protected] installed in the extentions of Firefox Profiles!? There are also other extentions with no names. The reason I'm asking this is because what I explained in the begining of this thread about a suspicious Gmail phishing page!

The Host file was reset as that had the potential to download malware and redirect you to bad websites

And the Host file was changed sometime between the first and the last OTL scan, so whether you had been visiting bad sites or not I cannot tell

Subject to no further problems :)

I will remove my tools now and give some recommendations, but, I would like you to run for 24 hours or so and come back if you have any problems

Now the best part of the day ----- Your log now appears clean :thumbsup:

A good workman always cleans up after himself so..The following will implement some cleanup procedures as well as reset System Restore points:

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done

Run OTL and hit the cleanup button. It will remove all the programmes we have used plus itself.

We will now confirm that your hidden files are set to that, as some of the tools I use will change that
  • Click Start.
  • Open My Computer.
  • Select the Tools menu and click Folder Options.
  • Select the View Tab.
  • Under the Hidden files and folders heading select Do not show hidden files and folders.
  • Click Yes to confirm.
  • Click OK.

Download and install FileHippo update checker and run it monthly it will show you which programmes on your system need updating and give a download link

The gmail address is part of the FF addon as I stated in the next post, and has no bearing on the phishing page, have a look at the link I posted...

I thought it was obvious as I said in my post # 36: that malware on my pc has deleted it and not by visiting bad sites as you had assumed.

The Host file was not deleted it was added to, this was not caused by a rootkit but either a drive by download or injudicious clicking on a link

I can see no evidence at all of a rootkit, but there were some bad addons, again a drive by or bundled with some other software

A bada site can be any site as there are many sites hacked each day..
I will locate a link for that

Ok! Thanks for the clarifications; it was a misunderstanding from my part.

The infection that I had was bundled in the free utility software that I installed.
