Router is Belkin Wireless G Router F5D7230-4 (Ver 6002)
Modem is Motorola SBV5120

know what, as a quick test, can you connect your computer directly to your modem instead of the router and see if it works there?

Still doesn't work...I guess the issues isn't the router

seems like it. again, your computer works if you take it somewhere else, just not at your house (and probably other places). when you removed the router from the equation, you still had internet connectivity connected directly to the modem right?

Correct on all points.
I have server connectivity when I bring my laptop to some places, but just not my house.
I still had internet connection when I plugged direct into modem

that would suggest that it's something with your ISP then. you may need to contact their support and see if they're blocking something. they SHOULDN'T be, and it COULD still be something on your side, but it would be smarter to confirm with them firrst

I checked with them and we did a tracert to the IP address and saw that it went all the way without issue

well, an ICMP packet traversing to the destination and windows file sharing aren't the same thing. being able to ping something (which is basically what tracert is doing sort of) and being able to connect for an authenticated session are worlds apart in that you can block one while allowing the other. this might take a bit more digging.


can you open up windows explorer (my computer basically) and in the address bar there put \\<ip address of server>\<name of a folder that should be in there>

I've tried that approach to connect to the IP address remotely
I think its the same principle as run: \\ip address\folder

When I do this from my home it does not work, but it does work from other locations

it is the same principle, but this is a weird issue so trying things is where we're going to find an answer.

the fact that absolutely nothing about your computer has to change other than it's internet connection has to change for you to be able to connect then it suggests that something is blocking the transaction.

it could be on the work side of the transaction. either something at the office, or the office ISP might be blocking your IP address perhaps.

which actually can give us something to test with

if you could try using TOR https://www.torproject.org/ ...it's an anonymizer. this will present your computer as coming from a different source to the destination server. which would let you know if it's an IP block or something.
