Hi,

Just wanted to update this and say what has happened with my computer and the progress that I have planned for this.

Two days ago, I was in the middle of playing a League of Legends game when I think everything was working fine except for that 'shut down-restart' problem when all of a sudden my computer crashed and gave me a blue screen. I didn't think much of it because I just got disconnected from my game and I needed to rejoin ASAP. So the computer booted up again and I reconnected to the game. It crashed again after a few minutes, after not seeing the fuzzy screen and a weird noise coming from the computer/motherboard, I restarted the PC and again reconnected back into the game. If you think it is the game, on the 4th time restarting the PC after crashing AGAIN (the players in my team where getting a bit frustrated and so was I). When it got to the start up screen showing my desktop wallpaper/icons.. It crashed again there. So for the final time, I reconnected back in the game and finished the game. I restarted the PC and it automatically done a Disk Check which I didn't take notice of as I just left the computer for some food. When I came back the computer has booted up but it says that there is now nothing plugged in and no sound coming out. My TV monitor is connected to the graphics card via HDMI and normally there is sound coming from there. When I plug in my turtlebeach headset onto the front of the computer with the cables there is sound, I am now thinking if it could be a graphics card problem but I will confirm this later by using a different HDMI cable to see if the problem could be that.

Anyway, I wanted to call ASUS and talk to them about the motherboard issue and about everything that was done so far with the computer even from before when I started this thread. But it made me think if they would listen and do something about the motherboard because it is an old type of motherboard and I don't have much information about it (Like where/when I got it from because I paid a friend to put everything together in my computer around october 2011 and we don't get in contact anymore). I'm not really sure if they will do something about the motherboard even if I tell them the serial number as I have the box for it and also other information that they might need.

Later when I get home, I will try to use a different HDMI cable to see if there could be a problem with the current one and then I will reformat the PC. I will post here as soon as I reformatted the computer and the results I would get from using a new HDMI cable.

I will still try to call ASUS but I want to propose something new. As I could soon afford new items, I want to be able to build together a new PC using the existing parts from this old PC.
I'm pretty sure that it's possible but I'm not good and need help on what type to buy because I might buy something that's not compatible with one another. As far as I'm aware, the graphics card coule be used again as well as RAM sticks and the OS too?

I would appreciate the help and the guides on what I could do moving on from today.

Thanks

Edit 1: After reading through some parts of the thread again and taking the knowledge that some parts I can reuse and only the MOBO should be replaced. What shall I do about the water cool/heat sink? Shall I reuse it or use a new and different heatsink/water cooler. Same with the case, do I keep the same or replace?

Edit 2: I'm looking to also up my PSU and I'm wondering if this is a good choice with the same parts?

Thanks for the update.

When you do a clean install of the OS + update, installed the drivers + update. From the MB website, update any utilities and then the BIOS.
Install only essential software like, firewall, anti virus and browser then test the computer and post the results.

At the end of the post, please give a full list of all your parts, include brand and model of everything, then we can look at what parts could be used for a new build.

A full list of the parts is already in a post #218 if you want to see them already.

So when I reformat the computer, do not download programs yet such as skype/chrome/dropbox?
I think the drivers I'll need to reinstall would only be the graphics card. Is this correct?

Thanks

Thanks, got the specs.

So when I reformat the computer, do not download programs yet such as skype/chrome/dropbox?
A. Correct, only the essentials. Chrome is OK if that is the browser you use.

I think the drivers I'll need to reinstall would only be the graphics card. Is this correct
A. no, First, you will need to use the disk that came with the MB, it has the drivers and utilities for the MB. Then read the MB manual about updating drivers, and the BIOS.
Second, Install the Graphics drivers, then go to the video card manufacturers website and perform an update. Please do not use any Beta drivers, only certified drivers.

I do not have the Motherboard CD that came with it. My friend took it and what I have been doing is if I reformat the computer, I would go on the ASUS website and normally download what I need from there. Beforehand I put it in a memory stick as there is no internet connection after reformatting.

Here is the website from where I take the software/drives from:
http://www.asus.com/...ort_Download_30

Windows 7 64bit

After having the internet I normally download everything from the page. I am not sure however if this is correct, can you please verify which ones I would need and would not need. It says that there are 61 files found.

Another thing to note: I normally use DriverMax to download and update drivers, I'm also not sure if this is a good idea but I feel that they need updating when maybe they dont.

Edit 1: I used the Windows 7 CD that I have used before and I think it upgraded the software rather than fully erasing everything and reformatting from beginning. The sound is back which is a good thing. Now I will see if there will be any crashes. Still yet to shut down to see if it would restart or not.

Did you have to download any drivers? If your Graphics card works properly, does sound like a repair was done, not a full clean install.
Is Hibernation working?

I prefer going to a manufacturers web site for drivers, they have been tested with your brand of hardware, like your Router. Driver Update programs will often give you Beta drivers without telling you or ones that are not quite compatible with your hardware.

I have noticed that sometimes I don't download the software or I do a system restore. I'll be away from home for a while but I'll be thinking what I can do with my PC and find out if I should upgrade and reuse the parts or something.

Gday.

Hibernation does not work nor does sleep

Looked through the topic and can't think of any other methods to try, so it has me stumped.

These are the updates to install from the Asus web site. Please do them in this order and restart after each one.

1. Chipset. AMD Chipset Driver V8.710(3.0.765.0) 2010.09.13

2. LAN. Version5.764.702/6.239.531/ 2010/09/13

3. Utilities ASUS Update V7.18.03 2010/04/28
4. ASUS PC Diagnostics V1.122011/04/20 NB. Please read the manual first, before running the tool.

5. Manuals. User guide for ASUS PC Diagnostics tool

After finishing the downloads and installs.
Please run the Asus Diagnostic tool.
When running the System Devices Test, please use the Auto Test.

Let us know the results.

Hi, couple of questions.

Do you want me to reformat the computer and wipe everything out and start from beginning as if it was new?
or do you just want me to go on the Asus website now and follow the steps that you gave?

What do you mean by 'system devices test' and 'auto test'

Thanks

Edit 1: The computer crashed while I was in the middle of a game. I had a feeling that it could be due to the weather and my room as it is so hot. So I downloaded SpeedFan to check on the temperatures of my motherboard/cpu/gpu.. Most of the temperature readings have a green tick, others a blue arrow and for the GPU it says that is on fire and currentonly on 58C-60C and the core 40C.. This is just when I am on windows and have nothing else open.

Edit 2: So I was just looking through the thread and making notes on what has been done (another post will be up soon) when suddenly the computer crashed and it gave this screen.
01.jpg

So what I done is press the restart button on the case so it would boot up again, but while it was booting up it gave a black screen saying 'Missing operating system_' I have never seen this before and pressing anything on the keyboard done nothing to it so again I restarted the computer. Once it booted it gave a black screen again saying 'BOOTMGR image is corrupt. The system cannot boot.' again I restarted the computer and finally it came up to a screen asking if I want to repair and I chose it. While in the middle of the process, it froze and gave this screen.
02.jpg

Now I just fully switched the computer off and waited a few minutes and restarted again. I am not sure when it could freeze again but I'm posting here so it could be seen.

Edit 3: computer crashed again after 30 minutes finishing edit 2. Leaving the computer off for a few hours.

Gday.
Sorry for the delay in responding.
I am flying out to the Uk in the morning, so will try to look more at your posts in a couple of days.'In the meantime.
Please run the following.
Speedfan, post a screenshot of the results.
HWMonitor, post a screenshot of the results.
PCPitstop. post the URL from the results browser address bar.
Speccy. post the results.
The reported temps are actually not that high but you can try the following to see if it makes a difference to crashing.
Try running with the side of the case open a place a desk or pedestal fan to blow into the case, > http://www.bunnings....--Pedestal Fans

I have completed the tests that you asked for and here is the URL for PC Pitstop:
http://www.pcpitstop...?conid=25377426

And attached are the rest. Please let me know if there is anything else you may need from Speccy, I only took screen shots of MB and RAM

Also, my computer has crashed 3 times so far today, one while it was running PC pitstop and the other two when I was in my League of Legends game. I am pretty sure that the game does not cause this because numerous times it has crashed even when the game is not open.
