Hi mrlynnc,
Welcome to Geeks to Go!
If a factory restore is what you'd like to do, there are a couple ways to accomplish this feat. The HP Recovery Manager can be accessed from the Start Menu > Recovery Manager, or by tapping F11 key as soon as you power on the laptop. The Recovery Manager is also used to make a Recovery Disk set if you haven't already. I believe on an HP this is a one time option so you might want to check to see if those disc's have been created yet and do so if they haven't. If get a message that the disc's have already been created then a second set may not be available.
Here's a bit of information on Performing an HP System Recovery for Windows Vista
If you have any questions at all, please don't hesitate to ask.
