So although that MB would work, it seems rather cheap, therefore I assume bad. If I'm buying a new one would rather upgrade than downgrade.
As I'm in the UK, need a UK seller - do you know where I could get a better one?
Thanks - appreciate all your help guys. Can't wait to get the system up and running again!

I suggest that we try and resolve the present issue that you are having with this system and if successful you save for a complete new build, this system could then be used for something like a HTPC.

If the mini beeper does not work, this is what you can buy, > http://www.overclock...aker_45058.html Radio Shack sells them, A local PC repair shop may have some laying around.

I already purchased and tried a new PSU before posting here, but I obviously didn't connect it up properly.
I bought the MB I linked to, plugged it all in but it wouldn't work. I changed to the new PSU and it loaded. I then switched back to the old MB with the new PSU and it loaded, so I'm back up and running.
I guess I'll keep the new MB as a backup.
Thanks for all your help! If nothing else, I guess I've definitely learned how to build a PC and I guess that's a useful skill to have
Again, thanks!

Great you sorted the isuue without having to go through all the diagnostic steps.
I was a good way to learn about the workings of a computer and there is always something new in the sind.
Have you cleaned off the old thermal insulation material from the CPU and heat-sink? then applied new, before remounting it?
Have you backed up your DATA and promised to do it on a regular base? in case disaster strikes again.
Is your internal system speaker now working?

Bought a new CPU fan, cleaned old paste and put on new. Data is already all backedup (always is), however don't yet have an internal speaker. Going to order one from the link given in a previous post.
Thanks again for your help guys

Ditto to what iammykyl has said
In addition keep the following in mind for the future, when a computer that normally emits a single beep after successfully completing POST will not POST and does not emit ANY beeps the first thing that should be checked is the PSU, two reasons for this are 1: A bad PSU has the potential to pop and take all of the other hardware with it and 2: The fact that you do not get any error beep (or on screen message sometimes) suggests that there is either poor or zero power being put out by the PSU, another occasion when you may not get error beeps or an onscreen message is when the MB is bad but in this instance the MB will have no signs of life whatsoever.
