Hi

I'm having issues connecting to the internet on a Dell PC running Windows 7.

I have another PC that is also running Windows 7, also a Dell - I'm not having any issues with it.

They are both wired connections into a Cisco Linksys wireless router E2500.

On one PC I cannot connect to the internet. I ran the connectivity issue diagnostic and got a message that there was an issue with the DNS Server. Subsequent diagnostics said that nothing was wrong

I've called my cable company; they could not help - signal is making it to the modem and to the other PC via the same router.

I've called the support for my router and all the settings on the issue PC (IP address, Gateway, etc.) are the same as the connected PC. The router is working fine.

I checked the Dell support site and the warranty expired 7 days ago (Murphy's Law)

I go to Device Manager and neither of the two listed devices are showing an issue.

I've restarted, I've done a winsock reset, I tried starting in Safe Mode with Network and still the issue persists.

My son was playing on his PC last night, turned it off and went to bed. This morning he could not connect.

I see you have Mcafee installed is it a payed subscription?

If its payed do you have the required information (serial, user, etc.) to reinstall and register the program again?

It is included with our internet service, I recently uninstalled it on the working PC and installed Windows Security Essentials instead. The sick PC - we haven't done that yet.

What if I uninstalled it on the sick PC and then tried installing Windows Security on it instead?

There are some cases where Mcafee its responsible for breaking the internet access.

I would recommend to uninstall Mcafee and see if you can gain access to the internet, after that its up to you if you want to reinstall Mcafee or replace with Security Essentials.

Make sure you have the registration information if you want to reinstall Mcafee later.

There just are not enough emotes to express my gratitude! I hope my words are enough.

As soon as the uninstaller finished I could see that there was a connection, I went ahead and restarted anyway and we are solid!!

I do want to mention that there were a couple of Windows Updates that I installed just prior to using that link you sent and one of them was for the Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller, but I restarted after that and still had no success.

It was McAfee all along. Thank you so much.
