So I bought, recently, a GTX 680, and after installing it tonight, one of my twin 200mm case fans just stopped working, it'll twitch if I play with the inbuild fan controller on the chassis, ( Graphite 600t Black )but the lights will no illuminate and it will not spin up.

The other fan in front has lost its LED vibrance, though when I unplug the previously mentioned fan, the fan gains some of its light back. I'm thinking I may have shot the PSU when installing the new GPU, or my Fan may have kicked the bucket.

Problem is though, I have no CPU fan installed, so a lot of sensors are not being picked up properly, but I can run SpeedFan/HWMonitor all the same.

That is asking for trouble. A CPU does have thermal protection, at a set temp, (dependent on the CPU) It will throttle back or shut down. Constantly running close to that limit will shorten the life of the unit, or fry it. I would strongly advice against running without a properly instilled cooling solution.

It could be that the PSU does not have enough watts/amps. We really need more information so we would be better placed to help you.

Please give your full system specs, make and model of everything, including monitor and any other peripherals.

CPU is running at super low temperatures, it usually does, its just the GPU is running a bit hotter than I would like which worries me a tad. The PSU at 600w was running fine until I installed the GTX 680. Now I only get the one fan working properly.

Hm. Any easy way for me to get you guys the overall specs so I don't have to hunt through parts?

While iammykyl is offline can I make a couple of suggestions for you which will help with the troubleshooting;

To obtain your system specs run Speccy, expand the motherboard and summary tabs and take a screenshot of each and attach them to your next reply http://www.piriform.com/speccy

Download Speedfan and install it. Once it's installed, run the program and post here the information it shows. The information I want you to post is the stuff that is circled in the example picture I have attached.
If you are running on a vista machine, please go to where you installed the program and run the program as administrator.

To capture and post a screenshot;

Click on the ALT key + PRT SCR key..its on the top row..right hand side..now click on start...all programs...accessories...paint....left click in the white area ...press CTRL + V...click on file...click on save...save it to your desktop...name it something related to the screen your capturing... BE SURE TO SAVE IT AS A .JPG ...otherwise it may be to big to upload... then after typing in any response you have... click on browse...desktop...find the screenshot..select it and click on the upload button...then on the lower left...after it says upload successful...click on add reply like you normally would.

Depending on the results we may need to run further software for comparison.

Screenshot instructions are provided to assist those that may read this topic but are not yet aware of the “how to”.

SpeedFan doesn't give the Voltages on the bottom right like yours does. It only has one fan speed.

Can you tell us what the brand and model name or number is for your PSU please.

Couple of things of note are high CPU usage in Speedfan readings, was the computer idle when the readings were taken or under load such as gaming, a low +3.3V rail is reported by Speccy, can you run HWMonitor and again provide a screenshot we can use for comparison http://www.cpuid.com.../hwmonitor.html

NB: Remove any testing software as you see fit but for now I suggest that you uncheck the Auto fan speed in Speedfan.

Thanks for the update Sylus.
You say the PSU is 600w, we do need to know the manufacturer and model. Sometimes even good fanufactueres put out models that perform well below there rated specs.
This is the GTX 680 reference specs. Max temps 98C. power draw, 195w, not over-clocked. Min 38 amps on the 12v rails.
Does yours require 2x 6 pin power cables or 1x 6 pin and 1x 8 pin?

WOW explains the high CPU usage but HWMonitor is also showing the +3.3V rail as being low which is a problem, see the two attachments below for the outputs required to run a stable computer.

A quality brand 600W PSU with a minimum of 38amps on the +12V rail is fine for the GTX680 card + the additional SSD and a couple of extra fans but only if the PSU is 100% stable.

Can you check what the voltages are in the BIOS for us, this unfortunately can only confirm if the PSU is bad if a low +3.3V rail is showing but a normal reading cannot be relied upon as when you are in the BIOS the computer is under the least amount of load.

RE The CPU temps, I have just upgraded a Dell that had no direct CPU fan, it had a tower like copper heatsink with a cowel on top and a large cooling fan attached to that then to the rear of the case, ugly but effective as the temps never went over 36C.

Memory usage does look high so perhaps Sylus will do a double check when the system is idle.

Sorry for late replies, at work here.

The RAM usage was probably account of Chrome tabs, my game and Photoshop to chew the screenshots up to send them, I haven't had any RAM based issues, though the low frequency in screen 5 is curious. I have two Vengeance sticks in there at 1600 MHz, but they seem to be running slower.

As for cooling, yeah I have two Noctua fans on my heatsink that keep the CPU ice cold, even when overclocking it. I also sleuthed into the issue a bit more.. People are reporting the fan controller failing on the Graphite 600T cases, so that may very well be the issue. I'm going to see if I have on board fan space I can use instead and see if that fixes it.. Though it does seem like when I get my new cpu/mobo upgrade, a PSU would be in order, costs for them are low now anyway.

And I linked the PSU from Newegg, if that asking on the brand was an oops. ;p

Also just hit me. I have low volt adapters for the two fans in question.. Should I try swapping to these lower volt/lower noise connectors when I get home and check, as a temp solution?

Another edit, the GTX680 has a 6 and 8 pin connector for power on it, my PSU has a small 2 pin to connect up to the 8 pin.

Not sure on the low volt adapters as we would need more details as to what they are.

When you can, checking the voltages in the BIOS for us will help.
