Good morning. I have forgotten my userpassword to login to my laptop. I can log in as admin but I do not see my user account. I have tried logging into the server as well as locally but still do not see my user account. Only guest, administrators, and aspnet. I can see my user profile under documents. I am trying to understand why my username is not showing up anywhere?

Any suggestions?

Thank you.

Hi,

To try to help you I need to check you OS config...

  • Please download MiniToolBox and save the file to the Desktop.
Close the browser and run the tool, check the following options:
    • List Users, Partitions and Memory size
    Click on Go.
Include the resulting log in your next reply.
  • Another check, download SystemLook from one of the links below according to your OS Architecture and save it to your Desktop.
    SystemLook (32-bit)

    • Double-click SystemLook.exe to run it.
    • Accept the prompt Allow the program to make changes to this computer (UAC prompt)
    • Copy the content of the following codebox into the main textfield:
      :dir
      %systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\

    • Click the Look button to start the scan.
    • When finished, a notepad window will open with the results of the scan. Please post this log in your next reply.
Note: The log can be found on your Desktop entitled SystemLook.txt

Hello. Here is the log file from the MiniToolBox but I could not get the log for SystemLook. When I clicked on the exe it brings up a dialogue box with either look or exit. If I click look it brings up a script required and nothing happens:

Hi,

You need to copy & paste the text from the code box on the SystemLook box and then click the Lookbutton.

Which was the user you normally use to access the computer?

Hi,

The text you need to copy is this:

:dir
%systemdrive%\Documents and Settings\

Paste the 2 lines above on the SystemLookup box.

When I take it to work it is connected. I did take it to work and even out IT department could not see it under active directory. Is it possible that I was not connected to the network long enough for active directory to discovery it? I only had it plugged into the network for about 15 minutes.

Hi,

Its seems the account no longer exists on the local computer and only the profile exists on the disk.
In my opinion the simple solution is this:

  • rename the existing profile from c:\Documents and Settings\cryder to c:\Documents and Settings\cryder-old to save all your documents, mails, etc.
  • create a new user account called cryder and log-off
  • login with the new user account
  • move your files and folders from the old profile to the new one, copy only your files and not the files inside the cryder-old folder.

Thank you I will create another profile. All my documents are there but no favourites or email. I have a back up so I should be okay. Thank you very much for all of your help.
