Reboot went much faster. I then restarted the pc and the collapse of windows went much faster until the "Shutting Down..." announcement on the screen... that remains about the same. However, when the pc restarted, it did not go as fast, I heard a few USB device connected blips that I do not normally hear with startup/reboot and nothing appeared in the lower right corner.

Normally, when a USB device is connected, an icon appears in the lower right hand corner letting you know that it was connected and also providing one to "Safely Remove Hardware", correct?
