Hey all! firstly i wana say thanx for all your help before youve all been really handy! i have a new problem now however!

Tomorrow i should be getting my Athlon 64 3400+ processor with motherboard! and i am hoping to fit it! i have fitted processors motherboards etc and i am very computer literate but i have never indulged in a 64bit processor before!

I have hear a lot of rumours around that the 64bit processors are not compatible with windows XP professional as i have not an old but not a brand new windows xp copy! will i expirience any troubles or are their downloads which i can use to upgrade my current copy of windows to 64bit?

Any help would be great

Hi chek001. Welcome to Geeks to Go. I have two AMD 64 custom systems both running Windows XP Pro with SP2, never had any problems (32bit). As far as windows 64 bit os, M$ had a beta version for a while and I believe they now have released the os. There are still lots of hardware driver issues and software compatibility issues. Be sure your system hardware manufacturers have windows 64 bit drivers available. For information on windows 64 bit, go over to M$ and get the official word from them. I am sure the answer is on their web page.
