Hi Jshields86,

Step One: ESET Online Scanner

The ESET log you posted wasn't complete, so I'd like you to run it again.

Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner
Note: You will need to use Internet Explorer running in admin mode for this scan. To do this right click on Internet Explorer and pick Run as administrator.
  • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
  • Click Start
  • When asked, allow the ActiveX control to install
  • Click Start
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is not checked.
  • Make sure that the option Scan unwanted applications is checked
  • Click Scan (This scan can take several hours, so please be patient)
  • Once the scan is completed, you may close the window
  • Use Notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files (x86)/ESET/ESET Online Scanner\log.txt
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic

Step Two: Update Adobe Reader

It's very important that you keep your computer updated with the latest Adobe Reader.

First, uninstall the old Adobe Reader.
  • Click the Start Orb and select Control Panel.
  • In Control Panel, select Programs and Features.
  • Select
    • Adobe Reader 10.1
  • Click Uninstall.

If you are using Adobe only as a reader and not as a creator I recommend installing Foxit PDF Reader instead. It's a smaller program, uses less resources, and it's safer.

To Download Foxit PDF Reader:
Download Foxit PDF Reader.
Note: When installing FoxitReader, be careful not to install anything to do with AskBar.

To Download Adobe Reader:
Download and install the latest version of Adobe Reader. Make sure to uncheck "Yes, install McAfee Security Scan Plus" before downloading.

Step Three: Update Adobe Flash

Your Adobe Flash Player is out of date and needs to be updated, but first we need to uninstall the old one.

First, visit this website and follow instructions 1-4, to uninstall Adobe Flash.

When the old version is uninstalled, visit this website and click on the Player Download Center link on that page to download and install the latest version.

Step Four: What problems remain?

Let me know if any problems remain.

What I need in your next post:
1. The ESET Report, C:\Program Files (x86)/ESET/ESET Online Scanner\log.txt.
2. Let me know if there are any outstanding problems.

When i ran the AVP tool the first time there were no threats found and no log made that i could find. when i did the gather information after the scan, it through the process but there was no virus tool under the program file. so i could not find the log that was made.
On either scan it stated there were no threats found.

Hi Jshields86,

Congratulations, your logs appear clean again! Now we have some cleanup to do.

Delete System Restore Points

Follow the instructions here to delete all restore points.

Clean up with OTL

Run OTL.
  • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following:
    :Commands
    [createrestorepoint]
    [emptytemp]

  • Then click the Run Fix button at the top.
  • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done.

  • Right click on OTL and select Run as administrator, to run it.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
  • On the OTL main screen, press the Cleanup button
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.

Note: If any logs/tools remain on your desktop > right click and delete them.

Update Windows

It is important to keep your operating system updated. To enable Automatic Updates so that updates are downloaded and installed automatically, click here.

Preventative Programs

Anti Spyware

I recommend updating and scanning with MalwareBytes Anti-Malware once a week to rid your system of spyware.

Anti-Virus Software Advice

Your anti-virus software, Avast!, is setup to download and install updates as they become available. I also advise that you run a full scan weekly, to further protect yourself.

Temp File Cleaner

Finally, it is a good idea to clear out all your temp files every now and then. This will help keep your computer from slowing down and it can also assist in getting rid of files that may contain malicious code that could re-infect your computer.
  • TFC is a great tool to clean temporary files.

Finally, to learn more about how to protect yourself while on the internet read How did I get infected?

I will keep this thread open for a few days, so if you have any further problems post another reply here.
