Problems after installing recent Windows 7 service pack

I installed the most recent service pack to my Lenovo Z565 with Windows 7 and now I cannot use IE. Most importantly, I need IE to correctly establish a VPN connection to work and to access my work email through the Outlook Exchange. I tried a system restore to before the service pack installation and now I cannot access other parts of the OS, such as checking properties, performing additional system restores, and other tasks. After the system restore, I also happen to have lost administrator privileges. Please help!! Thanks.
