Being this is a Samsung try the below.

f8 should bring you to a screen with a "Repair your computer" option. Select that option and go from there

Islandcat your laptop has a different method to get to the recovery partition.

Toshiba:

To access the recovery partition do the following...

Power off the laptop.
Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears.
Start tapping the zero key repeatedly at this point.
Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears.
The screen should flash HDD RECOVERY MODE for a second and then it will load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.
Note that this erases all data, and reloads all factory default software.

whoops. Well it is letting me do Recovery of Factory Default Software. Will see if there is anything left of this laptop to try that way when this is done. I couldnt do other Recovery as apparently no back up and no back up disc. Well that didnt appear to work, cant sign in, says need to reset password using disc or usb. No drive. Hmmm now to try what you said.

It didn't really work or didn't work at all? You should have been taken to the system recovery option.
