Ok that narrows a lot down since you are not even in windows. We most likely are dealing with one of the following.

  • Motherboard
  • CPU
  • Memory
  • PSU

The PSU has to be the same if not more wattage then the one that is currently installed.
How old is the system we are checking?

So about 8 years old now. OK check the voltage on the PSU and make sure any replacement you borrow and use is at least the same.

Another member mentioned something also. Is the system going into hibernation or sleep mode when not in use? Is this when it restarts?

If the system is going to energy saver mode or into hibernation it may be a power scheme issue.
