USB Mass Storage Device Failed?

For some reason my computer won't detect detect any storage devices (for example, I can't access my pictures on my ipod) BUT itunes will still recognize my ipod? Also, it tried to install the driver for the "USB Mass Storage Device" but it failed and had a red x next to it. :/ Help?
