Hi. :)

panda scan is in my programms

OK, might as well uninstall that as we will not be using it again.

there a few restore points

That is good then as there are a few available if the need to invoke one etc.

Next:

Download the attached Catroot.bat(see below) to your desktop...

Then right-click on Catroot.bat and and select Run as Administrator to run the batch file. It will self-delete when completed.

Note: Your machine should automatically reboot after running the batch file. If it does not reboot your machine manually.

TFC(Temp File Cleaner):

  • Please download TFC to your desktop,
  • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
  • Right-click on TFC.exe and select Run as Administrator to run the program.
  • Click the Start button in the bottom left of TFC
  • If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.
Note: Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It should not take longer than a couple of minutes , and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.

ESET Online Scanner:

Note: You can use either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox for this scan. You will however need to disable your current installed Anti-Virus, how to do so can be read here.

Vista users: You will need to to right-click on the either the IE or FF icon in the Start Menu or Quick Launch Bar on the Taskbar and select Run as Administrator from the context menu.

  • Please go here to run the scan...

Note: If using Mozilla Firefox you will need to download esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe when prompted then right-click on nd select Run as Administrator it to install.
All of the below instructions are compatible with either Internet Explorer or Mozilla FireFox.

  • Select the option YES, I accept the Terms of Use then click on: Posted Image
  • When prompted allow the Add-On/Active X to install.
  • Make sure that the option Remove found threats is Not checked, and the option Scan archives is checked.
  • Now click on Advanced Settings and select the following:
    • Scan for potentially unwanted applications
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth Technology
  • Now click on: Posted Image
  • The virus signature database... will begin to download. Be patient this make take some time depending on the speed of your Internet Connection.
  • When completed the Online Scan will begin automatically.
  • Do not touch either the Mouse or keyboard during the scan otherwise it may stall.
  • When completed select Uninstall application on close if you so wish, make sure you copy the logfile first!
  • Now click on: Posted Image
  • Use notepad to open the logfile located at C:\Program Files\ESET\EsetOnlineScanner\log.txt.
  • Copy and paste that log as a reply to this topic.
Note: Do not forget to re-enable your Anti-Virus application after running the above scan!

Next:

When completed the above, please post back the following in the order asked for:

  • How is your computer performing now, any further symptoms and or problems encountered?
  • Eset Log.

in answer, my comp seems okay apart from odd time mouse moves on its own or firefox sometimes not responding but normally doesnt last long

p.s my comp has not had any anti virus for the last hour while scanning eset, any chance I could get hacked during that time?

thanks

Hi. :)

p.s my comp has not had any anti virus for the last hour while scanning eset, any chance I could get hacked during that time?

Not a cause for concern I assure you as I run the scan this way myself on my own machines etc. Plus I would never advise anything for those I assist that would potentially leave a machine susceptible to such you enquired about.

everytime I reboot I get an error message about erunt and files being denied, do I delete it?

Feasible this was re-created after rebuilding your machines catroot folder...

Click on Start(Vista Orb) >> All Programs >> Startup >> right-click on ERUNT AutoBackup(if present) and select Delete >> follow the prompts >> empty the Recycle Bin.

odd time mouse moves on its own

What type of mouse are you currently using ? Say a touch-pad, wired(connects via ps2/usb cable) and or a wireless one for example.

firefox sometimes not responding but normally doesnt last long

OK carry out the below and then check Firefox/use it for awhile...

Reset Firefox

Note: You can also refer to this Mozilla Support article.

  • Launch Firefox >> Help >> Troubleshooting Information
Note: If no Menu bar visible >> right click on the top of the browser >> Menu Bar to make it show.
  • Near the top of the new window that appears under Reset Firefox to its default state
  • Click on Reset Firefox >> in the Reset Firfox window that appears >> click on Reset Firefox >> Finish.
Note: There will now be a folder on your desktop called Old Firefox Data, this is a backup of bookmarks/settings etc.

Hi. :)

reset firefox but not golt old data file, all my bookmarks are still there :)

Hmm strange as checked that on my Vista machine prior and it did but in the great scheme of things not a problem I think as your bookmarks are still present etc.

I uninstalled erunt but it wasnt in the recycle bin

Fair play, would have been better to leave installed because of the registry backups but no harm done.

I have a wired mouse

OK try this:-

Hi. :)

nice one thanks :)

You're welcome, providing no further issues remaining...

Clean up with OTL:

  • Right-click OTL and select Run as Administrator to start the program.
  • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot.
  • On the OTL main screen, depress the CleanUp button.
  • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.
The above process should clean up and remove the vast majority of scanners used and logs created etc.

Any left over merely delete yourself and empty the Recycle Bin.

Reset the System Restore points:

Create a new, clean System Restore point:-

  • Right click on Computer and select Properties >> System protection >> in the System Properties window click on Create....
  • Give this restore point a descriptive name and click on Create.
  • When the new restore point is created click on OK >> close the System Properties window.
Note: Do not clear infected/old System Restore points before creating a new System Restore point first!

Flush Old System Restore points:-

  • Next click Start(Vista Orb) >> Run (or the Windows key and R together) to bring up the Run box and and copy and paste in:
    cleanmgr
  • in the box and press OK.
  • Select the system drive, C >> OK.
  • Ensure the boxes for Recycle Bin, Temporary Files and Temporary Internet Files are checked, you can choose to check other boxes if you wish but they are not required.
  • Click on Clean up system files >> Select the system drive, C >> OK.
  • Now click on the More Options tab.
  • Under:-
System Restore and Shadow Copies
  • Click on Clean up... >> Delete >> OK >> Delete Files.
