hp C56 external momitor

i recently aquired a hp c56 laptop wtih a bac screen, it works great with the external monitor and i wish to keep using it that way. my question is, if i take the screen off the laptop, will it recognize the external monitor as its default? as it is no, the external only comes alive when windows loads, id realy like to get into the bios settings but due to how the extrenal monitor works, im unable to
