When I start my computer I see the initial windows xp logo and the green startup and then the screen goes back and doesn't start up. I can start my computer in safemode and have tried to restore to previous setting but that did not help. When I shut down my computer it gives me a blue screen with

stop: c000021a {fatal system error}
the windows logon process system process terminated unexpectedly
f 0xc0000096 (ox00000000 0x00000000).the system has been shut down.

This all seems to have started a few weeks ago when I used VMWARE. My license for AutoCAD stopped working and I had to reinstall it on Bootcamp and I started receiving the blue screen when I shut down my computer. I stopped using VMWARE (but have not uninstalled it). Only today did the computer stop starting up.

Would love help, every answer I read on forums gives a different solution and seems dependent on the source of the original problem so I am wary to follow anything but personalized advice. Thanks in advance

Hi

My first hunch is uninstalling the software will cure the problem. Its most likely not compatible with Windows: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/156669

If you still can boot in safe made, you can uninstall the program by working in Windows in Safe Mode; another option is using System Restore in Safe Mode:

http://bertk.mvps.or...l/safemode.html
Access System Restore and restore the OS to an earlier date than the installation of the program

Warning: by doing so all installed software including Windows updates, enz., that has been installed since the installation of the program in question will be lost. However all data stays intact.

Only today did the computer stop starting up.

If you saying that your pc is not starting anymore in safe mode; then

you might have a couple of options to consider:

1. Try to work around the problem; to give safe mode a last chance:

Troubleshooting works best when you disconnect the PC from the network and any other hardware devices like a printer, cameras, USB-stick, cables, etc…

Then:

  • Push the power button
  • Let it run uninterrupted; say for a couple of hours
  • if nothing happen; turn off the PC
  • Pull the power cable from the elec. outlet on the wall
  • Keep the other end of the cable connected the to the PC
  • Press the power button on the PC repeatedly for 30 seconds
  • Reboot
If you were able to enter Windows Advanced Options Menu; then you can proceed with what I suggested earlier, if you wish.

If nothing happen; you can repeat this procedure one or two times more; but if you have no success with that , your best luck is to:

2. start Windows using Recovery Console: last option in MS Troubleshooting original error problem: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/156669

If this didn't work, then:

3. Possibility of infection when reinstalling AutoCAD, or other causes:
