Trying to connect DVD/DVR so that we can get netflix and not have to get behind the units and switch the ethernet cable all the time. Bought an ethernet switch and plugged in ethernet cables to it and to each of the units along with the main ethernet cable from the PC but unable to get these to work. Logically something seems to be missing. A router? Or can we just plug in another ethernet cable to the PC modem and then to the DVD player and keep one also hooked up to the DVR and both would work when we need them to? Very untechy person as you can tell. Thanks for any help!

You can plug as many Ethernet cables into the modem as space will allow. So yes you can plug another cable into the modem and have one to the DVD and one to the DVR. I have 5 cables plugged into my router, only have one outlet on the modem and have no problems. If you need more spaces you can also get a adapter for more cables. FYI when I used a adapter for my spaces it interfered with my wireless keyboard. Never did find a reason or cure for this. Are you sure you don't have a router, modem combination as most modems only have one outlet where routers have several.

Thank you so much for your ans. I asked an acquaintance about using the switch box and he explained where to put the main ethernet cable from the modem to the switch box - I didn't understand either from the instructions or on the switchbox itself that #1 was the "main" plug-in and the others secondary. Have everything plugged in now and my devices are working just fine. More and more am finding inst. are written for people who already have the know-how and not for people like me who know nothing! Thank you again.

I agree with you instructions are written so the folks who understand them wont need them. I always red the instructions last or as a last resort and they usually dont help.
