Hey!
I have a really bad problem and i really dont want to wipe my computer so here it is. Last friday before i went away my computer was fine, but when i got home after the weekend and i went on the computer and i noticed that instead of the usaul error sounds i got a weird beep sound from the tower of my computer.
So i went into the control panel and looked at my sound Device properties and it said that there was no sound device installed. My computer has worked fine since i got it about 9 months ago. I continued to try to fix it, I uninstalled and reinstalled my sound card, i tryed differant speakers that work on my other computer, head phones dont work, updated drivers. Also when i go to Add new Hardware theres an exlamation mark by C-Media AC97 Audio Device! please help i really dont want to wipe my computer. :tazz:

Thanks
Aaron

9 Month Old Computer (pretty much brand new)

-Windows XP
-160GB HD
-450 RAM
-C-Media AC97 Audio Device

If you right click the exclamation mark then click properties, does it say the driver is not installed.

If so, are these the drivers you installed

I have already done this it still doesnt work.

This is what it says

Uninstall and then reinstall your device.
To resolve the problem that is causing Device Manager to show an error code for your device, try uninstalling and then reinstalling the device.

To uninstall your device

Open Device Manager.
If the category for your device is not expanded, double-click the category.
Under the category for your device, right-click the device that you want to uninstall, and then click Uninstall.
In the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK.
Note

To open Device Manager, click Start, click Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click System. In the System Properties dialog box, click the Hardware tab, and then click Device Manager.
Once you have removed your device, use the Add Hardware Wizard to reinstall it.

To reinstall your device

Close any open programs.
Start the Add Hardware Wizard.
Click Next, and wait for Windows to search for Plug and Play devices. Most new devices are Plug and Play, so you rarely need to go beyond this step.
If no Plug and Play devices are found, a list of devices appears. Click Add a new hardware device, and then click Next.
Click Install the hardware that I manually select from a list, and then click Next.
In the Common hardware types list, click the appropriate device category, and then click Next.
In the Manufacturers list, click the manufacturer of your device; in the Models list, click the model name.

Or, click Have Disk if you have an updated or manufacturer-supplied driver to install for your device.
Click Next, and then follow the wizard's instructions to complete the installation.

Microsoft say the driver can still cause Code 10 error

If device manager says there is a soundcard installed

Contact C-Media tech support

http://www.cmedia.com.tw/etech-re2.asp

and also Realtek

Email: [email protected]

to ask if you can use another driver

There are drivers for AC97 here if you have ALC chipset

Did anyone use / drop the PC while you were away

Thank you so much! I had exactly the same problem today and tried already several things (as well as download driver from C-Media that didn't work). But now - thanks to you and realtek - everything's working perfectly again.

Which software did you use exactly, i'm having the same problem. Just wondering if this would fix it.

Thanks.
