IE running slow, Chrome running great

I recently ran into a problem that my IE is loading and running extremely slow after a recent re-install of Vista. I do not have any add-ons running, and I have installed all updates. Chrome runs great. I have checked for spyware, malware, etc. Any ideas what it could be?
