Disable the 1394 Net Adapter = 1394 Connection in device manager.

Get an updated version of your wifi driver here.
The latest version is at the top of the list of the win xp 32 bit.
http://www.pcpitstop...ownload/Intel(R)~PRO%2FWireless~2200BG~Network~Connection.html

Reboot your machine after the driver install and check the connection.

Hello,

Thanks for the help. I couldn't open your link to the wiifi driver so I downloaded the PCStop driver check and it updated my Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG Network to 12/19/2007 9.0.4.39. On running the driver check again it confirms it is up to date. I also disabled the 1394 net adapter and restarted the computer. It connected on/off for 2 mins and then has gone back to the annoying little yellow dot finding process so no luck!

Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector program says it fails with dns lookup and no IP address but I have checked to see what my IP address is and made sure they are set to obtain automatically. Any other suggestions please?

Hey,

Thanks for reposting so quickly, I'm ducking down to the library and shops (as addicting as finding a solution is a girls gotta eat!) and then will report again. THANKYOU so much again (even if it doesn't work but fingers crossed!).

Repairing:

1394 - TCP/Ip is not enabled for this connection. Cannot proceed.

Wireless Intel - repair got stuck on message 'renewing IP' but windows detail box on the side of screen flashing from 'Acquiring network address" to 'not connected, firewalled'. I tried turning Windows Firewall off altogether and repairing but the same message appeared. Bugger!

You need to enable dhcp for your wireless connection.
As well as enable NetBIOS over Tcpip.

To enable DHCP and netbios you can attempt two methods the first is.

Hit the windows key and r at the same time then type cmd in the run box.

Now type

net start dhcp

Hit enter

Now type

net start netbios

Hit enter.

Now close the command prompt and check the connection.

If no go then hit the start button.

control panel Double click network connection's

right click your wireless connection

Select Properties Go to the internet protocol tcp/ip

Then propeties. Make sure obtain an ip address automatically is ticked.

Then use the following dns that is where the Google dns comes in to play.

The make sure the dns tab has the following ticked.

Append primary and connection specific dns and

Append parent Suffixes of the primary dns Suffix.

Under the Wins Tab make sure the following has a tick next to it.

Enable LM hosts look up

Under net bios setting make sure that the default item is ticked the one on top of the three option's.

Now ok your way out of there and close all running programs reboot the machine and check the connection.

If it does not work (lets hope it does) Send me a new minitoolbox log without list installed programs ticked so the log is smaller. :)

Also for your wireless connection please set your dns to google dns.

Or simply use DNS jumper.
