I managed to remove the framework, however when I tried to install it once again, I got an error message saying something like ".net framework 4 was not installed because there was a system error when checking the trust".

The log says it failed, with the same error code as when I try to use windows updates :

Open Notepad and copy the text below into it and save it to your desktop call it updatefix.reg then right click it and select merge Reboot your machine.

Normally we would create a restore point prior to this but I have already had you do that.

If after the reboot you try and install the updates and re install .net framework 4.0 and they fail then revert back to the restore point I had you create earlier. :)

Unfrtunately this didn't work, so I reverted back to the restore point.... I hope you're not running out of ideas?

I'm sorry, but I don't know what you mean by re-doing the registry fix  . Which of all previous actions do you refer to?

If that should happen to fail then running the .net framework Repair tool may help in this situation.

Do you know of anyone whom you can borrow a vista disk with the same version so that you can perform a repair?

I actually have borrowed one already. I never used it however because I was told that this might give problems, since the laptop came from HP with Windows pre-installed. Apparently, this may lead to problems when trying to re-install the software from a disc. You're the expert however, do you not consider this a risk? If not, I'm looking forward to your instructions :-)
