Did you just install new hardware or make a change to some hardware or a hardware driver? If so, there's a very good chance that the change you made caused the STOP 0x0000008E error.
Undo the change you made and test for the 0x8E blue screen error.

1 Remove or reconfigure the newly installed hardware.
2 Startup with Last Known Good Configuration to undo related registry and driver changes.

If it doesn't help, then we have to use another method:

What version of windows are you using(XP, Vista, 7)?

I have Windows XP. I don't recall installing any thing lately. Maybe adjusted the registry for fixing a language-bar problem but it was useless and that was quite long ago.

As for the steps you mentioned, I'm not sure how to do so because the blue screen is the only thing shown once I open the computer.

If it worth mentioning, I've been having troubles for quite some time until now with hibernating the computer. It's either won't hibernate after the specific time it's set to or - like yesterday, the very last thing I did on the computer - it won't hibernate "with direct order" - so to speak - and I had to unplug it to close it.

Here is how to To start the computer using the Last Known Good Configuration.

To start the computer using the last known good configuration:

Restart your computer (or turn it on if it was turned off, duh...)

When you see the message Please select the operating system to start, press F8.

Use the arrow keys to highlight Last Known Good Configuration, and then press ENTER.

If you have a dual-boot or multiple-boot system, choose the installation that you need to access using the arrow keys, and then press ENTER.

If it doesn't helpt please do the following:

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.
Start your computer using REATOGO-X-PE desktop.
Locate and open your flashdrive and double click on frst.exe to run the tool.
When the tool opens click "Yes" to disclaimer.
Press "Scan" button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your next message.

I know it seems silly but I'm not sure it's working.. I don't know what to do to create this "Reatogo-X-PE Boot CD". I downloaded a "REATOGO-240.exe" file, installed it in the "c" directory, and I got an error message "HAS_BLANK_IN_PATH". When I searched this I found these two pages:
Can't Start Reatogo
Reatogo_Download_PREP
but I don't get what I'm supposed to do.

After it is done, you would have to boor from CD in order to use Farbar Recovery Scan Tool.

When trying to to the first step "searching for windows installation files" it says "number of valid source locations found 0". Is it okay for me to continue in this case?

Sorry for the delay, but I was busy with something.

You can use BartPE bootable CD instead (of Reatogo).

Here is a video tutorial

Hi,

Sorry for late reply, I had few setbacks but it didn't turn out well. I made the bootable CD and it was a success when I tried it on the computer I made it on, but when I tried to open it on mine, a black screen interrupted the 'starting BartPE' screen saying
"File\i386\system32\ntoskrnl.exe could not be loaded.
The error code is 32768

Setup cannot continue. Press any key to exit."

Sorry about that. I forgot about you because I was very busy.

You can try running Hiren's BootCD Mini Windows Xp - this should wirk without any problems.

Here is a tutorial:

After Hiren's starts, please chose Mini Windows Xp

Then

Download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.
Start your computer using Hiren's BootCD 15.2 Mini Windows Xp.
Locate and open your flashdrive and double click on frst.exe to run the tool.
When the tool opens click "Yes" to disclaimer.
Press "Scan" button.
It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please copy and paste it to your next message.

Hi,

I don't know what to say. This is frustrating.. This too didn't work.. I got multiple error screens: new one for every time I tried the cd and some were repeated even though I created the cd successfully on a different computer other than the one I used to create BartPE.

Here are they:

Looks pretty bad. It seems like there is a problem with the memory.
When log in to Hiren's, try to start Memtest86 and wait it is done. Then take a picture and post it here.

I don't know what to expect or how long it's going to take. And I read on different forums that it took 30 to 72 hours. Wouldn't this affect the lifetime of the computer badly? So I posted this so you could keep up with me and tell me what to do next depending.

Something else, would frequent power failure lead to this?

I have never heard of Memtest86 taking so long. Even if it took so long, it wouldn't affect the lifetime of someone's computer sine 72 hours of work is not too much for a PC.

The picture you posted shows that the test isn't finished; but I would assume that it is OK because in most of the cases, if the memory is defective, Memtest86 will display errors in the first few minutes of test .

In my opinion, you computer has a serious problem, but I think it is fixable.

Please do the following steps

Step 1

Check your hard disk for bad sectors and filesystem problems.

1 Download Partition Wizard Bootable tool from HERE
2 You can see how to put it on a CD or USB flash drive and boot with it HERE

3 After Partition Wizard starts, right click on partition "C" and select Check File System
4 Select Check & fix detected errors and press ok. Take a screenshot and close the window when finished
5 Right click on partition "C" again and select Surface Test and then press Start Now and wait until it finishes.Take a screenshot and close it.

Please include the following screenshots in your next reply:

1 (Partition Wizard) Check & fix detected errors
2 (Partition Wizard) Surface Test

Step 2

Open Hiren's go to DOS Programs > Hard Disk Tools and chose Hard Disk Sentinel
After you oppen Hard Disk Sentinel, do the test and take a screenshot.

Please include a screenshot from Hard Disk Sentinel in your next reply.

Step 3

Try booting "Hiren's" from USB - see tutorial HERE.
You have already made a Hiren's Boot CD. This is an additional step to the last tutorial.
After you start Hiren's from USB, chose Mini Windows XP. If it displays any errors, takea screenshots and post them here.
