my laptop screen darkens when plugged in and brightens when on battery

any sugestions?

When plugged in turn up the brightness using the FN key and another key with a symbol showing brightness up. Unplug the computer and turn the brightness down. Some laptops remeber what the brighness level was set at when on battery and when plugged in.
