Connecting i pod to i tunes?

I've downloaded i tunes and tried to connect my i pod shuffle,but don't see it appear on the i tunes set up.I read that an i tunes "Genie" may do this,but to get the Genie I apparently have to register with i tunes and give them my CC info?????Is there any other -better-methods or suggestions.

Additionally:I tried out "Streaming Audio Recorder"which apparently downloads you tube audio/music which I can transfer easily to i tunes;which I'm considering purchasing.Is this recommended or a good idea,as it does seem convenient and easy for someone not very tech able-like me.
